What is counselling?
Counselling is a form of therapy that is based around client stories that are shared with a therapist in a confidential and supportive environment. The main purpose of counselling is to identify and provide ways to help you understand not only yourself but any challenges you may be struggling with.
How is counselling different to sharing with my friends?
Generally, friends like to help. They like to give advice. The difference is that counsellors don’t give advice. They are not connected to you personally and are therefore able to provide you with an unbiased view. They help you by listening to your concerns and providing you with alternative ways to understand and cope with them. With guidance they will teach you coping strategies that assist you to find ways to enrich your life experiences.
